President Donald Trump has made it clear that he is firmly against abortion.
In an interview with CBS News’ Lesley Stahl in October 2019, he said that he wanted to see the law changed so that states could ban abortion. “I am pro-life,” Trump said. “I think it’s very important. I think it’s a strong, powerful position.”
Trump has also cut off federal funding to abortion providers like Planned Parenthood, and in 2019 he signed an executive order banning U.S. taxpayer-funded abortions overseas.
Trump has said that he is committed to making the United States a “pro-life nation.”
In April 2019, Trump welcomed a group of anti-abortion activists to the White House for a “pro-life” event.
Trump has been clear that he wants to see Roe vs. Wade overturned, and he has appointed two Supreme Court justices who have opposed the decision in the past. In October 2020, Trump told CBN News that he believes the Supreme Court will eventually overturn Roe vs. Wade and that abortion will then become a state issue.
“I think it’ll happen automatically, in time, because I made these appointments to the court,” Trump said. “But I’m not going to be pushing it very hard.” Trump has also said that he would like to see abortion bans put in place at the state level.
“The best thing would be for Roe v. Wade to be overturned and then go back to the states,” Trump said in an interview with The Hill in January 2020. “I think that would be ideal.”
Trump’s views on abortion have been consistent throughout his presidency, and he has made it clear that he is committed to making the United States a “pro-life nation.”
The former president is widely credited with laying the groundwork fort the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe vs. Wade.
Trump appointed the judges that led to the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. When the decision to overturn the landmark legalization came down in 2022, Trump said: “God made this happen”
The anti-abortion group called “Operation Rescue” has been a vocal supporter of Trump.
The group’s website even features a photo of Trump with the caption “The most pro-life president in history!”
